Haunted Futures 2025
Proposals for presentations are now being accepted for the third annual
Haunted Futures Conference to be held from the *12th - 14th of November,
in University College Cork.*
The conference proposes to explore haunting and spectrality as potent
staging grounds for radical social change, which, in their dismantling
of hegemonic relationships to time, provide a means of imagining new
futures in the late-capitalist Anthropocene and empower marginalised and
exploited identities, both human and otherwise.
Proposed topics include, but are not limited to:
*
Hauntings and ecology
*
Hauntings and time
*
Queer hauntings
*
Hauntings and race
*
Hauntings and gender
*
Pop hauntology
*
Hauntings and conflict
*
Postcolonial hauntings
*
The haunted archive
*
Ghosts, climate change and biodiversity loss
*
Ghostwatch(BBC, 1992)
The special focus of this year’s conference is “Haunted Technologies”,
and we strongly encourage the submission of papers or panels which
respond to this theme. This might include topics such as:
*
Haunted screens
*
Defunct technologies
*
Technologies as haunting
*
Technologies and war
*
Haunted industries; e.g. mining and factory work
Please note:
*
The organisers are particularly interested in the work of
postgraduate and early career researchers
*
There is no registration or submission fee for this event.
*
The organisers also encourage proposals for _artistic or
multimedia/practice based projects_, a specific call for this will
be circulated to practitioners, but we encourage you to get in touch
