[Commlist] The Artist as Public intellectual - Invitation to Hybrid Showcase

Wed Nov 27 19:32:35 GMT 2024

*THE ARTIST AS PUBLIC INTELLECTUAL:*
*/…Bringing Rememory and Sankofa to Imagined Futures of Ethical Transnational Media Collaborations /*
*28TH AND 29TH NOVEMBER 2024*
*Video Information, **_here <https://youtu.be/UeOfi5fVM3c>_**. *Schedule, below *Keynote Lecture: Dr. Jacqueline Maingard:* Associate Professor, Dept., of Film and Television. University of Bristol, UK. *_Date_:* 29 November 2024. *_Time_:* 10:10am – 10:40am.
*Abstract*
This UKRI-HEIF funded event is facilitated by /Developing a Media Decolonisation Imaginary /(DMDI), an interdisciplinary network on ethics in transnational media research. Comprised of three universities, and thirty-one scholars, artists and media practitioners, it is led by *Bournemouth University's **_CESJ Centre <https://www.bournemouth.ac.uk/research/centres-institutes/centre-study-conflict-emotion-social-justice>_*, and *Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Ghana*. Partners include the University of the Liberal Arts, Bangladesh, Lanka Cine Media Sri Lanka, and the Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange (WSICE). /"The Artist as Public Intellectual…/” adopts “Rememory” in ways Toni Morrison (1987) defines as the revisiting and reimagining of the past to heal, dream, and inspire innovations. It also invokes /Sankofa/, the Ghanaian philosophical call to a futuristic progress which must intentionally include relevant heritages of the past. With these concepts, this event engages worlds in the ‘Global South’ beyond academia. It seeks to learn how artistic knowledge-exchanges about histories, socio-cultural heritages, filmmaking, as well as indigenous knowledge systems of media, identity, gender, and textiles, can advance innovative ways for (re)thinking ethical transnational media engagements around research, practice/industry, and pedagogy. Specifically, this artistic showcase is interested in north-south transnational media collaborations, especially those vulnerable to extractive international collaborations. More details in the _EventBrite link <https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-artist-as-public-intellectual-tickets-1083086885029?aff=oddtdtcreator>_, here.
