[Commlist] CFP: Speculative Fiction Across Media

The _Speculative Fiction Across Media_ conference (SFAM) is having its first annual meeting from Thursday, October 17 – Saturday, October 19, 2024 in Los Angeles, CA (see the website atwww.SFAMLA.org).


The theme for this year is “_Queens of the Future: A Century of Women in Speculative Fiction Media_.” We invite papers that address any aspects of speculative fiction across media, especially those that focus on women’s multiple contributions to film, television, literature, comics, animation, video games, and fandom. 300-500 word abstracts for papers or panels are due by May 24, with acceptances by June 24.

Our guest of honor for the event will be writer and producer _Gale Anne Hurd_ (/The Terminator/,/Aliens/,/The Walking Dead/). Our featured speaker will be _Constance Penley_, professor of Film and Media Studies and the Founding Director of the Carsey-Wolf Center at UC Santa Barbara. We will also have an excursion to the/Cyberpunk: Envisioning Possible Futures/exhibition at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.


The conference is being organized by the SFAM Executive Committee: Patrick Sharp (Cal State LA), Sherryl Vint (UC Riverside), Jeri Zulli (Fashion Institute of Technology), Simon Spiegel (University of Zurich), and David Higgins (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University).
