This conference will focus on the linguistic evolution of fake news from 
the dawn of journalism to today. It will offer insights on the 
dissemination and reception of fake news by addressing an important - 
yet overlooked - research question: /what role does *language *play in 
the production and proliferation of fake news?/

We invite papers that address this question from different angles, 
investigating:

● The register, style, and rhetoric of fake news
● Fake news in translation
● The relationship between political and propagandistic language and 
fake news
● The linguistic variations between rumours and fake news
● The historical evolution of the languages of fake news
● The visual languages of fake news
● The impact of ‘media revolutions’ on the languages of fake news

Papers exploring different historical periods and geographical regions 
are highly encouraged, as well as papers providing a transmedial and 
interdisciplinary perspective. We especially welcome contributions by 
Early Career Researchers, from both universities and the cultural 
heritage sector.

You can propose individual papers or a panel. If proposing a panel, 
please ensure a balance of contributions by ECRs, senior scholars, and 
GLAM researchers (or other non-academic researchers).

For individual contributions, please send an abstract (200 words) and a 
short biographical note (100 words); for panels, please send a general 
description of the panel (100 words), all abstracts (200 words each), 
and a short biographical note for each speaker (100 words), to the
