The University of Hartford's School of Communication seeks a full-time Clinical/Applied Teaching Assistant Professorwith expertise in managing a communications agency/firm and with implementing comprehensive communication campaigns and other projects. Under the clinical applied contract, the initial contract of 1-2 years is followed by subsequent contracts following successful review of performance and continuing need for the position. The position begins August 2020.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications: Ph.D. or a Master's degree; a professional background that could come from working in an advertising agency, in corporate communication, or at a public relations firm; and teaching experience.

The position’s primary role will be to oversee the student-staffed Agency and teach the class associated with it. The Agency is a new initiative at in the School of Communication, and the new faculty member will serve as its director and take a lead role in its development. The teaching load is three courses per semester.

Students who participate in The Agency work in teams to support on-campus and off-campus clients in their communication efforts. As the director of The Agency, the faculty member will be responsible for teaching the course that models working in an agency, recruiting and planning for client retention for The Agency, and managing The Agency’s client relationships. In addition, the faculty member may also teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level on managing client relationships, social media, and public relations. There will also be opportunities to teach and develop other relevant courses, including in the UniversityInterdisciplinary Studies program.

Preferred candidates will have experience and expertise with any or all of the following: essential programs in the Adobe Suite; social media marketing; digital media and audience analytics; online presentation; search engine optimization; market research; creative strategy; media planning; and event management.
