[Commlist] Environment, communication, science and society - relations, tensions and synergies conference

Sat Jun 01 08:44:52 GMT 2019

we have the pleasure to invite you to the first scientific meeting of the new "Study and Research Group Environment, Communication, Science and Society", that is a part of SFSIC (French Society of Information Science and Communication). This first meeting, held in French, has a twofold objective: to present the latest French-speaking research on environmental communication and physically build this new network, funded in 2018.

Program of the scientific meeting: https://f.hypotheses.org/wp-content/blogs.dir/6991/files/2019/05/journe%CC%81e-de%CC%81tudes-17-et-18-juin-Aix-programme-GER_tout_public.pdf

Environment is now at the source of multiple writings, stories and debates in our societies. It now covers a wide discursive perimeter and matrix, with notions such as ecology, ecological transition, sustainable development, corporate social responsibility (CSR, which includes an environmental dimension), the anthropocene, and collapse. These realities are widely present in the field of communication, public and private, professional, expert or profane, strategic or spontaneous.

In relation to these themes, very quickly the problems of information or communication have been pointed out, on multiple levels. Environment, Science and Society are intertwined, and environmental communication is at the same time a factor and a product of this interweaving.

This first inaugural scientific meeting of the Group Communication, Environment, Science and Society focus on the issues, relationships, tensions and synergies that exist between these four key poles. We want to understand together how information and communication sciences can have a place in the analysis of this interlinking, in terms of approaches, methodologies and theoretical contribution. How concretely forms of interdisciplinarity and collaboration between disciplines develop today, and how to improve them?

We also want to think about the best forms of contribution of this scientific disciplines to the ecological transition, maintaining a scientific attitude: the challenge of the relationship between research and commitment is therefore to be assumed, in this area as well as in others.

Location of the conference:

IUT Aix Marseille, 413 Gaston Berger Avenue 13625 Aix-en-Provence cedex 1 (France), North Amphi.
