[ecrea] Visiting Tutor: Digital Culture (Royal Holloway)

The Department of Media Arts at Royal Holloway, University of London, is
seeking a PhD or Post-Doc with teaching experience to lead a 3rd year
Autumn term (Mondays) course in Digital Culture. The course requires an
excellent understanding of theoretical and industrial debates in digital
culture, with a particular preference for candidates who can demonstrate
an understanding of current industry practice/issues.
You will work under the supervision of the Head of Department and
Academic Co-ordinator, with support from our programme team leaders but
will have autonomy to run the course according to your
research/knowledge specialisms. The role is hourly paid, 4hrs/week
+office hours over the 11 week term (including preparation and marking).

*Course Summary: *
This course engages students in key debates around digital cultures,
placing these in historical context and providing opportunity to apply
these analytically and creatively to current issues and trends in
digital cultures. It places this understanding of digital culture within
a wider history of media cultures, particularly film and television,
encouraging students to consider what is “new” about digital media, what
practices of production and reception have influenced the development of
digital culture and how have these been theorised. The course will
enable students to critically explore a wide range of issues in digital
cultures, from surveillance to web2.0, networks to ethics.
*LearningOutcomes:*
* Bring critical theories to bear on a range of digital media and
formations of digital culture
* Explain and critically analyse the social and ethical debates
surrounding digital culture
* Produce content (in written and/or audiovisual form) in an tone,
form and manner appropriate to a range of digital media platforms
* Select, organise and deploy ideas and information in order to
formulate cogent arguments and express them effectively in both
short and longer forms of written and oral assessment.

Internet resources and demonstrating efficient time management
