Two positions: Global Communications, The American University of Paris

The Department of Global Communications at The American University of
Paris**invites applications for two full-time positions at the rank of
Assistant Professor.
Candidates with cross-cultural expertise in one of the following areas
are of particular interest to the department:
- Critical studies of digital age culture industries & consumption:
gaming, music, internet of things, branding, advertising, PR,
journalism, fashion, and visual media. Excellent scholarship with
industry experience ideal.
- Emerging technologies, mobile platforms and social media for social
movements, non-profit and political communications. Combination of
scholarly research and practical field experience highly desirable.
- Critical big data, algorithmic cultures, including data mining,
predictive analytics, digital archiving, sousveillance/surveillance and
locative media; digital research methods. Combination of scholarly
research and practical field experience highly desirable.

Qualifications:** Ph.D. in Communications, Media studies, or a related
discipline by time of appointment (August 1, 2017, pending final
budgetary approval). Proven capacity for excellent, engaged teaching
committed to student learning within a liberal arts context. Solid
training in communication and media studies methods and theories.
Familiarity with liberal arts education, learning objectives, skill
development (critical thinking, information literacy, writing in the
disciplines, etc.) and assessment is highly desirable. Strong research
and publication potential. Ability in at least two languages and a
capacity to work in a multi-cultural environment a strong plus. Ability
to speak French is recommended but not required.
European Union citizenship or legal right to work in France, while
helpful, is not necessary at the time of application. While the
University can provide assistance in applying for working and residency
rights for spouses and partners, candidates should be aware that this
process can be lengthy and results cannot be guaranteed.

The Institution: ** Founded in 1962, The American University of Paris
(AUP) is a small, undergraduate and Masters degree-granting institution
with a Liberal Arts core, dedicated to the advancement of the Arts &
Sciences in an international and multicultural environment. AUP brings
together the values of the American higher education system with its
location in Paris and Europe. AUP is accredited in the United States of
America by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States
Association of Colleges and Schools. AUP has cooperative agreements with
several North American and European universities.
The Department:Dedicated to the international and comparative study of
communications, media and culture, the department houses two
undergraduate majors, one in Global Communications and one in
Journalism, an undergraduate minor in Cultural Anthropology and one in
Political Communications and a dynamic MA program in Global
Communications offering additional MA tracks in Development
Communications, Visual & Material Culture and Fashion. The department
has 10 full-time faculty, 8 part-time faculty, 140 undergraduate majors
and 80 graduate students.

Responsibilities:Full-time teaching consists of six courses per year
(3/3). Teaching responsibilities range from introductory undergraduate
core courses in Communications and Media Studies to MA courses
including: global digital media, social movements and civil society,
development communications, transnational flows of identity and cultural
value, critical cultural studies in branding, museums and fashion.
Ability to teach research methods courses a plus. Possibility of
teaching courses in the candidate's research area. Commitment to
scholarship, excellence in teaching, integrative learning, curricular
development & innovation, student advising and university service
required. We seek engaged teacher-scholars and have high expectations of
teaching and scholarly research for promotion. AUP follows an American
model of academic promotion (Assistant, Associate, Professor).
