Professor of Strategic Communication
The Department of Communication and Arts (DCA), Roskilde University,
invites applications for a position as Professor of Strategic
Communication from 1 March 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Department of Communication and Arts is an innovative and
interdisciplinary university environment, characterised by diversity
with respect to theory, method and area of study in research and
education. The department produces knowledge that contributes to
critical research and reflexive practice in relation to development and
change in society, including public institutions, private organizations,
NGOs, and cultural and media institutions. In Communication Studies,
research and teaching cover a plurality of theoretical traditions (for
example, sociocultural, critical, rhetorical, phenomenological and
pragmatic traditions) and empirical areas of study (for example,
dialogic and participatory, digital, intercultural, mass mediated,
organisational, political, science, strategic and visual communication).
For this position, we invite outstanding candidates in the field of
strategic communication within the wider field of communication and
organisation studies. Applicants should have a track record of research
excellence and a commitment to the development of critical ways of
theorising and empirically researching relations between media and
communication technologies and the social world, with a focus on
strategic communication challenges faced by organisations, including
public institutions, private businesses, governments, NGOs, and
campaign/ad hoc organisations.

Responsibilities and tasks:
As Professor of Strategic Communication, you will be expected to make a
substantial contribution to the development of strategic communication
within Communication as a field of research and study programme at
Roskilde University. In addition, the applicant is expected
• to carry out research and research-based teaching and supervision
within the field of strategic communication,
• to build up, lead and nurture a dynamic and productive research
culture within a research group (together with the department’s other
scholars in strategic and organisational communication),
• to maintain an outstanding record of publication,
• to apply for external research funding,
• to participate actively in everyday, collegial activities in the
department,
• to participate actively in national and international research networks,
• to teach, supervise and assess students at Bachelor and Masters levels
as well as PhD students,
• to support and guide postdoctoral researchers and assistant professors,
• to take part in academic assessment,
• to engage in the dissemination and sharing of knowledge with the rest
of society, including through participation in public debate.
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a PhD degree, and/or have documented scientific
qualifications as Associate Professor or equivalent, within the field of
strategic communication. In addition, the applicant is expected to have
• contributed to the development of the field of strategic communication,
• a high level of pedagogical competence,
• experience in research management, grant application, and editorial work,
• ties to, and to be an active part of, international research networks
and cooperation,
• experience in undertaking academic administrative responsibilities at
a university level,
• experience in supervision of junior researchers, and students at all
university levels.
You are required to be dynamic, to possess good interpersonal skills, to
be willing to be a visible, active participant in the department’s daily
activities, and to be willing to engage in disciplinary and
interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.
Assessment:
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:
• a proven record of outstanding research published in leading journals
and/or leading book publishers at an international level in the field of
strategic communication,
• a proven record with respect to applying for and securing external
research funding,
• a proven record with respect to research dissemination and
knowledge-sharing,
• experience with respect to dynamic leadership in research and education,
• experience with respect to teaching and education at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels,
• experience with respect to collaboration with organisations in
relation to research and education,experience with respect to
participation in national and international networks of researchers,
• a willingness to participate in the activities of the department as an
active and engaged colleague.

period of 5 years.

Responsibilities and tasks:
As assistant professor, you will be expected to make a contribution to
the ongoing development of Communication at Roskilde University as a
field of research and study programme. Your duties will primarily
consist of research and research-based teaching in Communication. This
will include obligations with respect to research publication, the
dissemination of research, and examination of students at bachelor and
masters levels. You will be expected to participate actively in one of
the department’s research groups, to collaborate with colleagues in
relation to research and teaching and, more generally, to participate
actively in the department’s daily activities. As assistant professor,
you will take part in Roskilde University’s training course for
assistant professors which places emphasis on project-oriented teaching
principles and methods.
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent in either or both of the
above-mentioned areas.
Assessment:
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to the
following:
• research area and interests in relation to one or both of the
above-mentioned areas
• research publications and research potential within one or both of the
above-mentioned areas,
• experience with respect to teaching, education and research
dissemination,

organisation of research conferences or seminars,
