*Assistant Professor of Communication Studies*

The Communication Studies Department at Indiana University South Bend invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Communication Studies in the area of Media Studies.

IU South Bend is the third largest campus in the Indiana University system and serves the north central Indiana community. In response to continued growth, the Communication Studies department launched a graduate program in August 2016. The department currently consists of eight full-time faculty members, and offers M.A. and B.A. degrees in Communication Studies. Our mission is to prepare students to communicate effectively in personal, professional, and mediated environments.

The successful candidate will teach three (two undergraduate and one graduate) courses per semester, perform research, contribute to service, advise majors, and, use his/her expertise to help advance the Master's degree program. This is a 10-month tenure-track appointment, and teaching during summer semesters is optional. The ability and willingness to teach in the department core curriculum for both B.A. and M.A. programs is expected. In addition, the ability and willingness to develop curriculum, especially online courses, and/or courses involving service-learning, is desired. Specific courses to be taught by this faculty member will include International Communication, and a Media and Society Seminar in the M.A. program; and Introduction to Mass Communication in the B.A. program, with a possibility of teaching journalism writing courses and public speaking in the B.A. program.



    QUALIFICATIONS:

  * Ph.D. in Communication or in a related field by time of appointment
    is preferred; however, ABD candidates with reasonable progress
    toward completion of degree will be considered.
  * A primary research background in Media Studies focusing on Critical
    Theory or Cultural Studies is required for all applicants.
  * Evidence of innovative and effective teaching is required for all
    applicants.
  * A candidate with expertise in international communication, or whose
    research involves a comparative analysis of media systems or
    globalization is preferred.
  * Professional journalism experience, or teaching experience in
    journalism writing courses and Public Speaking is also preferred.
