Free for further distribution: A report of the Round Table on ‘European
Public Sphere and small nations: is there a critical role for academic
intellectuals?’
Dear all,
In early June this year a group of media and communication scholars from
small European countries gathered in Helsinki for a Round Table
discussion on the theme ‘European Public Sphere and small nations: is
there a critical role for academic intellectuals? The event was
organized by the Communication Research Centre, Media and Communication
Studies, University of Helsinki.
Although the Round Table did not end up with a clear agenda for further
action, its discussions provided a number of good ideas and proposals
for continuing the dialogue. To enhance this, the organizers prepared a
report on the event, available at
http://www.helsinki.fi/crc/Julkaisut/EPS-RoundTableReportJune2013.pdf.
The report is free for further distribution.
The organizers wish that the report led to more discussions and
activities around the Round Table themes. In this way, the report can
facilitate for a wider ‘call for arms’ for critical debate on the
academia – and not only debate but action too, as the Round Table
concluded. All initiatives and proposals as to how to continue the
discussion are more than welcome!
On behalf of the organizers,
Hannu
