[ecrea] Journal of European Popular Culture new issue and EUPOP2012 conference
Tue Jul 10 22:37:29 GMT 2012
Intellect is delighted to announce the publication of issue 2.1 of
/Journal of European Popular Culture/ (JEPC).
Journal of European Popular Culture 2.1
In this issue, which explores the question "what is it that makes the
popular popular?", filmmaker Allyson Fiddler explores film's ability to
serve as a focal point for resistance within a context of political
turmoil, while Stephen Harper explores ways in which film can reflect
popular bias, for example, in the pervasive western humanitarian
interventionist narrative. Approaches to national identity are discussed
in an exploration of fusions between German and African-American music,
while through an examination of Nuri Bilge Ceylan's films, the
implications of the economic position of Turkish cinema within Europe is
discussed.

The /Journal of European Popular Culture/ is connected to the European
Popular Culture Association (EPCA) who are hosting their inaugural
conference (EUPOP2012) between the 11-13th July at the London College of
Fashion, University of the Arts, London. The EPCA promotes the study of
popular culture from, in, and about Europe. Popular culture involves a
wide range of activities, outcomes and audiences; EPCA aims to examine
and discuss these different activities as they relate both to Europe,
and to Europeans across the globe, whether contemporary or historical.
