Nominations – Due 1 November 2005

The Communication for Social Change (CSC) Award is an annual award given to an individual or organisation for contributions to the theory and/or practice of communication for social change. Major theoretical contributions, and applied communication practices that are illustrative of frontline change and long-term sustainable development will be considered for this award.

 
CSC Award

One award of $2500 will be made.

Travel and accommodation expenses will be borne by the organisers.

Objectives and Selection Criteria


The goals of the CSC Award are to:

   1. Recognise major theoretical innovation and knowledge generation in the area communication for social change,
   2. Acknowledge innovative and practical communication and social change projects that have contributed to sustainable development.
   3. Appreciate the contributions made by individuals whose moral courage and commitment to communication for social change expands the boundary of the possible.

The nomination for this annual award will be made by the jury (consisting of SJC Staff and eminent scholars in the field). While nominations can be submitted by individuals and organisations outside the School of Journalism and Communication, the final decision on the award of the grant will be taken by the Executive Board of the CSC Award.

We especially welcome nominations from inter-governmental organisations, international, regional and national academic and professional communication associations, international media networks and communication and social change consortia.

How to Submit a Nomination?

The School of Journalism and Communication invites you to submit a nomination by mail, fax or email by the 1st of November 2005.  An electronic version of the nomination form can be downloaded from: www.sjc.edu.au/cscnomform.doc
The following support documents have to be enclosed in the submission:

    * A completed and signed nomination form,
    * A letter describing the nominee's contribution to this area,
    * A curriculum vitae or organisational profile,
    * Media articles, profiles and supporting documents either written by or about the nominee, and
    * Three references (with full addresses and contact details) who may be contacted by the jury for more detailed information on the nominee.

 
Announcement  and award ceremony

The winner of the award will be announced to the media prior to the award ceremony and will be featured on the school's website – www.uq.edu.au/sjc

The annual award ceremony will be hosted by the School of Journalism and Communication and will involve:

1.      A guest lecture by the nominee or by a guest speaker

2.      The formal presentation of the award


Additional  Conditions of Award

The awardee:
   1. May be asked to present a public lecture or lectures at the University of Queensland
   2. Will be expected to contribute his/her lecture given at the award ceremony for publication in the Journal of Communication for Development and Social Change
  3. Should be prepared to be interviewed by the media
