Role overview and University context:

The successful applicant will undertake teaching in the Department of Communication and Media, with a focus on data science and communication. This is a fixed-term position to cover for a colleague on maternity leave. Preference will be given to applicants with research and teaching experience in one or more of Computational Social Science, Argumentation Mining, Applied Communication Sciences, Natural Language Processing, and Social Data Science. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in research activities within the Department.  We are looking to appoint the most appropriate candidate within the Grade 7 range, according to experience, ability, and interview performance.

Key responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, undertaking research and scholarship, and contributing to administration at levels commensurate with background experience.

Duties:

The Lecturer (Grade 7) Teaching & Scholarship (T&S) position starts in May 2026. The fixed term post (12 months) is part-time (0.8 FTE) to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and undertake research and scholarship in areas relevant to this role. The post requires the ability to perform the following functions: • Teach on and contribute to the delivery of undergraduate and taught postgraduate modules in the Department of Communication and Media, with a focus on data science and communication.
• Supervise student projects, and BA and MA dissertations.
• Assess student work.
• Develop specific teaching materials for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• Develop advanced teaching methodologies appropriate to the programmes.
• Keep abreast of developments in pedagogy and relevant research and scholarship
• Assist in the pastoral care of students on the programmes.
• Undertake such administrative duties (commensurate with the role) for the Department of Communication and Media as deemed appropriate by the Head of Department.
• Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as required.
