Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the School of Creative Industries within The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) welcomes applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2025 subject to final budgetary approval.

Unique among North American universities, the Creative Industries interdisciplinary B.A. program offers studies in creative fields from the perspective of enterprise development, creative practice, creative innovation, creative collaboration, and entrepreneurship. It combines an innovative core curriculum with a management focus and elective course modules from The Creative School’s nine professional schools. These schools offer programs in fashion, communication, film, media, and performance, and work closely with professional groups in Toronto, Canada’s cultural and business centre. TMU, a distinctly urban university, is Canada’s leader in innovative, career-focused education with a mission to serve societal needs and a long-standing commitment to engaging with its community.

The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, scholarly research or creative activity and service duties, while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. We are looking for candidates who will embrace, with enthusiasm, the opportunity to work in a dynamic interdisciplinary research and teaching environment. We seek an emerging scholar able to demonstrate a dynamic and productive agenda in scholarly, research, and creative (SRC) work which complements the school’s current strengths in creative industries research.

Candidates possessing a PhD in a relevant field completed by July 2025 are preferred. Candidates with a relevant terminal degree (e.g. MFA or MBA in a creative field) with a record of impactful peer-reviewed dissemination may be considered. A track record of professional practice and/or experience in the creative industries is considered an asset.

The successful candidate will also be committed to developing the next generation of leaders in the creative industries and will be responsible for leading classes including CRI 100: Creative Industries Overview, our first-year foundation course. This course introduces students to the unique interdisciplinary challenges and opportunities of the creative sector in Canada. Faculty in the Creative Industries also have the opportunity to teach and supervise students in TMU’s various graduate programs, as appropriate.

In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of commitment to our values of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and an ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the School and the University through collegial service.
