About the Position: 	

The Department of Media & Communication Studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a Lecturer position beginning August 2024.

We are specifically interested in candidates with a background in Media and Communication Studies (history, media literacy, and theory), with interest and experience in any of the following: media production, digital storytelling, podcasting, video, branding, public relations, and advertising.

Candidates require a terminal degree in a relevant field.

The successful candidate will teach a combination of courses in the Media and Communication Studies core (media literacy, media and communication history, media theory), and electives with integrated production or industry elements. The annual teaching load is eight courses (twenty-four credit hours). Candidates will also be expected to advise undergraduate students, and to contribute to the Department’s service and shared governance commitments.

Candidates need to demonstrate a commitment to high quality undergraduate teaching. Candidates must also describe the ways in which their creative works, research interests, teaching, and/or life experience contribute to “inclusive excellence,” such as their ability to work with underserved and diverse populations and their capacity to respond in pedagogically productive ways to the competence, aspirations and needs of students from diverse backgrounds.

The Media and Communication Studies Department encourages students to refine their media literacy and practice through the study of communication technology, critical and cultural communication, globalization, research methods, media production, and media history and theory. UMBC’s Department of Media and Communication Studies was founded in the belief that everyday life requires critical engagement across a range of media, platforms, and cultural contexts.
