[Commlist] Inaugural PhD Summer School in Digital Methods at Bournemouth University
Thu Jun 01 14:26:55 GMT 2023
We are delighted to invite you to the inaugural BU PhD Summer School in
Digital Methods, running 3rd-7^th July at Bournemouth University (BU).
The Summer School will be covering several digital methods including:
website scraping, content analysis, sentiment analysis, social network
analysis, APIs. This is all designed for people who do not code. The
topic of work is open, but it is intended for people working broadly
across the humanities and social sciences. The goal over the week is to
learn new methods and how to manage data and to work on a publication -
either individually or in a small team. You can collaborate with a BU
academic on this, subject to timing and availability. The course will be
led by Prof Scott Wright, with support from staff from across BU. The
plenary lecture will be delivered by Professor Mike Thelwall of
Sheffield University. After the week, we will have a follow up lecture
by Professor Rachel Gibson of Manchester University. Other speakers will
include Tim Lloyd of Helpful Digital talking about industrial
collaboration and Marc Smith of NodeXL.
The course will be open to both PhD students and early career
researchers. Places are strictly limited due to lab size and we will
select based on answers to the application as well as an overall
consideration to ensure a balance amongst participants (e.g.,
internal/external, gender, stage of study etc)
