The School of English, Drama and Film at University College Dublin is
hiring a Lecturer/Assistant Professor via the university's Ad Astra
Fellows scheme. It is open to applicants from all of the School's
constituent subjects (english, drama, film and media studies, creative
writing) but you'll see below that one of our strategic target areas for
this post is *film and media history*. We're also interested in
expanding the global range of the subjects (in film and media studies,
we currently have strengths in US cinema and television; Irish cinema,
television, and digital media; Bollywood; Indian digital cultures;
African digital media; as well as a number of colleagues working on
European cinema elsewhere in the College of Arts and Humanities).

English, Drama and Film.*
UCD School of English, Drama and Film is internationally renowned for
our research and teaching of the interpretation and practice of
literary, film, media, and performance cultures. The School plays key
roles in leading collaborations with major cultural, creative and
educational institutions, fostering the highest standards of creative
and performance practice nationally and internationally, and developing
innovative interdisciplinary research and teaching in major fields such
as cultural analytics, environmental humanities, gender and sexuality
studies, medical humanities, and new media studies. The School ranks in
the Top 50 in the QS World Subject rankings, and is home to major
research projects funded by the European Research Council, Irish
Research Council, Wellcome Trust, and others.
The School welcomes applications in any of our constituent subjects –
Creative Writing, Drama, English, and Film and Media. We are especially
interested in applications from candidates who can diversify the
geographical and historical range of our subjects, and whose research
matches most closely with one or more of the following strategic
priority areas: practice-led research; film and media history; cultural
analytics; screenwriting; creative non-fiction; drama and performance.
The School is under-represented in the following geographical areas of
expertise: Africa, Asia-Pacific, Caribbean, South Asia, Middle East, and
Latin America. Candidates with geographical expertise in these areas
across the range of our subjects are particularly encouraged.
Applications would be particularly encouraged also from earlier periods
of the historical range of our subjects. Candidates should also seek to
demonstrate awareness of the research funding landscape as it pertains
to their areas of expertise, and to show how they can provide leadership
to help the School grow new areas of research and teaching.
*Application Procedure*
Applications will consist of a cover letter, in which the applicant will
describe how their academic and research profile aligns with one or more
of the UCD strategic themes (1. Creating a Sustainable Global Society,
2. Transforming through Digital Technology, 3. Building a Healthy World,
4. Empowering Humanity), a complete CV including all research
publications and research grants to date together with any publications
submitted for publication but not yet published, and the names and the

95 Lecturer/Assistant Professor (above the bar) Salary Scale: *€58,206 -
€92,172 per annum*
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department
of Finance guidelines
Closing date: 17.00hrs (Local Irish Time) on *26th May 2023.*
Ad Astra Fellows are initially hired on a 5-year contract, but with a
permanency review after 4 years based on publication and grant
application targets agreed with the Head of School. The position comes
with a €5k per year research allowance for that initial 5-year period as
well as a PhD studentship and a reduced teaching load for the first few
years in post.
