The Department of Radio, Television & Film in the Ric Edelman College of
Communication & Creative Arts at Rowan University welcomes applications
for a full-time (10-month) open rank Professor of Television Studies, to
join the department September 1, 2023.
The successful candidate will specialize in global television and teach
and develop courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels within
the Department of Radio, Television & Film.
Existing courses to be taught at the undergraduate level include
offerings in TV History and Appreciation, with the expectation that the
successful candidate will develop additional Television Studies courses
at the undergraduate level. At the graduate level, the candidate should
be prepared to develop and teach a course in Global Television,
encompassing worldwide TV development and program history. Course
content should provide and examine examples of TV from many cultures,
from telenovelas and political dramas to comedies and reality shows,
with case studies illustrating how cultural exchange has informed the
development of global television (Spanish-language media, recent
production trends of the United Kingdom, Korea, Israel, France, Japan,
and the Nordic countries, for example).
Other candidate attributes strongly valued in this search include:
* Prior relevant teaching experience in television content and history.
* Active research agenda evidenced by a strong record of academic
publication.
* Demonstrated use of curated examples of TV content in the classroom.
* Attendance and panel appearances at international academic
conferences on television studies.
* Experience contributing to the design, coordination, and management
of academic programs, events, and departmental affairs.
Candidates meeting all or most of the above criteria are encouraged to
apply.
As a department with a strong history of teaching excellence, we seek
colleagues who value and excel at teaching. This tenure-track position
also carries an expectation of continued successful scholarly research
and publication, with efforts to seek external funding. In addition, the
successful candidate will be asked to contribute to the department,
college, and university through service including, but not limited to,
mentoring of students, curriculum development, and program assessment.
There is likewise an expectation for service to the wider professional
community.
*Criteria for Evaluation:*
Essential Criteria:
* Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in a relevant subject.
* ABD candidates with dissertation nearing completion will also be
considered. The terminal degree is required at the time of appointment.
* Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US on a
full-time basis.
* Candidates must have a record of effective teaching in
communication-related coursework at the college level.
* Candidates must be willing to engage in service to the Department of
Radio, Television & Film, Edelman CCCA, and Rowan University.
* Candidates must be willing to engage in service to the wider
professional community.
In addition to the requirements listed above the candidates must have:
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and/or
demonstrated record of working with diverse students and faculty.
Preferred Criteria:
* Candidates will have experience teaching or interest in and
knowledge of Spanish Language Global Television specifically and
Global TV in general.
* Candidates will have experience developing and teaching their own
courses.
