[Commlist] vacancy: Creative Economy Unit Strategic Development Manager – Cardiff University

Sat May 28 07:17:32 GMT 2022

*Strategic Development Manager sought for the Creative Economy Unit at the School of Journalism, Media and Culture at Cardiff University.*

The Creative Economy Unit (CEU) was established in 2014 to create a space for research and engagement projects focused on creative industries policy, collaboration and innovation in Wales. This move reflected consistent and continuing economic growth in the creative industries and increasing recognition of the creative economy at all levels of government.

Creative Cardiff was launched by the CEU in October 2015 to create a network connecting creative organisations and freelancers across the full spectrum of the city’s creative economy, from dancers to architects to coders. The CEU led a successful bid to the AHRC’s Creative Industries Clusters Programme. Clwstwr launched in 2019 and was the largest AHRC award received in Wales (also funded by Welsh Government and worth £9m in total). To date, Clwstwr has curated 100+ research, development and innovation (RD&I) projects with creative industry partners and established international partnerships with creative clusters in Germany and Norway. In 2019, the CEU bid for Wave 2 of the UKRI Strength in Places Fund. The first-stage application was shortlisted in 2020 and the successful bid – media.cymru, a CEU-led Consortium of 23 industry and civic partners – will bring in £22m from UKRI, £5m from the Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) and Welsh Government, with a further £20m in industry match.

Subsequent to this grant capture success, an exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Strategic Development Manager to join the School of Journalism, Media and Culture undertaking a one-year programme of scoping, horizon scanning and capacity-building activities. The role will be responsible for leading, managing and accelerating the development of strategic and complex proposals for the Creative economy Unit (CEU).

A key objective of this programme of activities will be to accelerate future RD&I activity with the creative industries sector, recognised as growing at twice the rate of the rest of the economy (Creative Industries Council 2021). The successful candidate will create a roadmap for the future development of the Creative Economy Unit, leading on the development of high-level strategic recommendations that will allow the CEU to take advantage of a range of funding opportunities over the next 5-10 years and to become a global leader in a field that is generating significant new academic and policy interventions. This will involve bringing together funders, stakeholders, Government and other partners.

This will require working closely with the CEU Senior Management Team and other professional services staff as well as with academic colleagues across the University to scope and assess options for strategic alignment and collaboration. This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term until 31 July 2023.

*Salary:*£43,434 - £50,296 per annum (Grade 7)

It is the University's policy to use the person specification as a tool for shortlisting. Candidates should evidence that they meet all of the essential criteria as well as, where relevant, the desirable. You are required to submit written evidence of how you fulfil each of the Essential Criteria in the Person Specification (and if met Desirable Criteria), using the same order/numbering in which they appear, in the form of a supporting statement.
