*Postdoctoral Researcher *

(Full-time 40h per week, up to pay grade 14 TV-L)

Project description

GEP Analysis focuses on industry norms, structures and practices that impede gender equality in the screen industries. Using a mixed-method, interdisciplinary approach, the project will draw on quantitative and qualitative empirical media research, cultural policy studies, communication studies, and network data science to examine 1) what industry structures and practices limit women's participation in the international screen industries and 2) what policy levers and interventions are most effectively delivering fundamental shifts in industry norms, structures, and practices and improving women's participation in the global film industry.

The multidisciplinary and international collaborative project (together with CI Prof. Dr. Elizabeth Prommer, U Rostock; PI Prof. Dr. Doris Eikhof, U Glasgow, UK; CI Dr. Amanda Coles, Deakin, AUS; PI Prof. Dr. Deb Verhoeven, U Alberta, CAN) combines methodological expertise (e.g. statistical/database analysis, qualitative research methods, social network analysis, cultural big data analysis) and disciplinary knowledge (e.g. screen/media research, film industry policy, critical creative economy studies, public policy, gender studies, diversity, work & employment studies) as well as extensive empirical knowledge on relevant geographies (Canada, Germany and UK in their international context).

GEP Analysis will specifically work across the social sciences to combine analyses of heterogeneous quantitative data with analyses of the policy and decision-making contexts that shape the political economy of specific national screen production industries. This evidence base will provide the foundation for an analysis of the preconditions as well as the industry programs and public policy/regulatory interventions required to create foundational change.
