Applications are invited for a two year, full-time post as Senior
Research Associate on the AHRC-funded project ‘Our Subversive Voice? The
History and Politics of the English Protest Song.’
The project will investigate the history and development of protest
songs in England and assess their importance as a form of political
communication. The research will involve documenting the history of the
English protest song from the seventeenth century to the present day,
examining the conditions that affect the production, distribution and
performance of protest songs and understanding how protest songs
communicate politically.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in a relevant discipline,
experience of archival and online research, evidence of ability to
conduct research interviews and be able to meet all the essential
criteria set out in the Person Specification.
The research will be based at the University of East Anglia in the
School of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communication Studies. The
research team includes Professor John Street (PI) and Professor Alan
Finlayson (CoI) at UEA, Dr Angela McShane (CoI) at the University of
Warwick and Professor Matthew Worley (CoI) at The University of Reading.
This full time post is available on a fixed-term basis from 1 October
2020 to 7 September 2022.
The University is a Silver Athena Swan Award holder.
