Fixed-Term Two-year Consultancy Contract

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a lecturer to be based in China teaching students journalism at the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). UCLan has worked in partnership with GDUFS for more than a decade. Students complete two years of study in China before coming over to UCLan’s Preston campus for the final two years of their BA International Journalism degree programme.

The School of Journalism, Media and Performance is looking torecruita lecturer to teach students journalism in Year 0 and Y1 of the programme. This presentsanexcitingopportunityfor the successful applicant to build a professional profile in a unique cross-cultural and dynamic environment.

GDUFS is in the city of Guangzhou in the Guangdong province of Southern China. It is approximately 75 miles from Hong Kong. It is now a vibrant and modern city on the Pearl River, but its history goes back more than 2,200 years.

The main duties of this post are to teach and facilitate learning and assessment for journalism modules. It also involves undertaking the role of Year Tutor and to act as a Personal Tutor/Academic Adviser for students and to support course operation. This will normally involve such activities as admissions, course administration and contributing to the joint School’s Quality Assurance Process.

Requirements:

    Experience of working as a professional journalist at a senior level.
A degree (in any discipline) and/or professional journalism qualifications.
    Thorough and up to date knowledge of the subject area
    Willingness to be based in Guangzhou.

The role is subject to references, DBS Check and obtaining a China work Z visa (restrictions apply).

In addition to the competitive salary, there is a bonus upon completion of a full year’s service of £1,500 payable at the end of the academic year. The attractive benefits package also includes free university accommodation, visa and two return economy flights (up to a value of £1,000 per return flight) to the Lecturer’s home country per academic year (applicants who are already based in China are also encouraged to apply.)
