It is open to those working in all branches of political theory, including those working in the field of poststructuralist political theory, broadly construed, and we would very much like to see a strong showing in this subfield if at all possible.

The Department of Government

The Department is now seeking to appoint an academic at the Lecturer level.

Duties of the Role

The post-holder is expected to conduct research and teaching in Political Theory. They will supervise undergraduate projects, MA, and PhD dissertations. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to generate research income, to contribute to the administration and leadership responsibilities within the Department, and to the local, regional and international profile of the Department.

Key responsibilities will include contributing to excellence in education by designing and delivering substantive and effective teaching and learning support, at undergraduate and postgraduate leaves; and engaging in individual and/ or collaborative research activity, resulting in internationally excellent publications, that is in keeping with REF criteria.

Skills and qualifications required

The successful candidate will hold a relevant doctoral level research degree in Political Science or will have equivalent professional experience or practice or be close to completion of a PhD. They will be a member of the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or have the ability to gain this at an appropriate level within a defined period of appointment.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate proven experience in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in higher education; evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes; and a sustained engagement in continuing professional development in relevant subjects/disciplines and their pedagogies.

This is a permanent, full-time role on an ASER (teaching and research) contract.
