The Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences invites applications for a

*W2-Professor in communication/media psychology with a focus on the 
public sphere of the Internet and social media*

starting as soon as possible.

The applicant must have a proven track record in communication/media 
psychology and its relevant sub disciplines, especially in interpersonal 
communication and in digital public sphere; the applicant should be able 
to represent these disciplines excellently in both teaching and research.

The applicant’s research should focus on the application and development 
of communication/media psychology approaches for the theoretical and 
empirical research of interpersonal, intergroup, and mediated 
communication in digital public spheres. A thematic focus in the area of 
religious and political fundamentalism is desirable. The applicant is 
expected to have international visibility as well as experience in the 
acquisition and implementation of empirical research projects on 
interactions between digital public sphere, group communication and 
individual communication.

The willingness to cooperate closely in research with the other 
professors of the department and the willingness to cooperate in 
interdisciplinary collaborative projects on social change within the 
Friedrich Schiller University Jena are expected.

The task profile of the professorship includes education in 
communication/media psychological courses of the BA and MA programs of 
the department.

Requirements for the position are pedagogical aptitude (proven by course 
evaluations), PhD, and Habilitation (or equivalent scientific achievements).

Friedrich Schiller University encourages the hiring of female

If this is a candidate’s first professorship, employment will begin with 
a temporary contract; exceptions to this are possible (ThürHG §79(2)).
