Applicants who receive an offer of a place will be eligible to apply for either a Chancellor's International Research Scholarship (2017) <http://www.sussex.ac.uk/study/phd/fees-and-scholarships/scholarships/view/661>(for overseas students) or an AHRC award (for Home and EU students) through our membership of the CHASE <http://www.sussex.ac.uk/study/phd/fees-and-scholarships/scholarships/view/662>consortium.

Once you have secured a place you will be invited to apply for a studentship on a competitive basis, and you will be guided through the rest of the application process from that point on:

  * For the Chancellor’s International Research Scholarship, your Sussex
    application must be completed by*5^th January 2017*
  * For a CHASE scholarship, your Sussex application must be completed
    by *11^th January 2017*

*What does CHASE at Sussex have to offer? *If you are successful in attracting a CHASE studentship, you will:

· have your fees paid and receive a stipend to cover your living expenses (subject to residential eligibility in the UK; EU residents will have only their fees paid)

· be eligible to apply for further financial support for training and research expenses, such as archival visits, conference trips, and learning a language or other skill integral to your research project

· benefit from a vibrant research environment with lots of opportunity to develop yourself as well as your research, through specialist research seminars, reading groups, lectures by world class visiting speakers, the Library’s Researcher Development Programme and CHASE student cohort meetings

· have the opportunity to undertake a placement to gain professional experience of applying your research in a work environment with one of our `partner organisations’, such as the BBC Archives, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the British Film and Video Council, the South Downs National Park, The Victoria and Albert Museum—and many more

· from your Sussex base also benefit from research and practical expertise available across all the other CHASE institutions, via existing research networks, joint or additional supervision and Encounters conferences, where all CHASE-funded students come together twice a year
