We wish to appoint a Lecturer in Media and Communication Studies. The
appointment is initially for a fixed term of 1 year with support for
career development and potential to secure a longer-term role. The post
will primarily involve teaching across the BA programme in the
Birmingham School of Media, support for course leadership and student
experience, as well as providing assistance in the formation of
individual research projects. The post offers remission and support for
the realisation of individual research and aid for career development,
and the appointment is part of our strategy to support research
development in the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research
(BCMCR).
You will hold a PhD, have teaching experience across the breadth of
media and communication studies and cognate fields and possess a flair
for pedagogical innovation and student engagement. We are particularly
interested in individuals with experience of teaching: research methods;
digital and new media; journalism and public relations; media and
cultural policy; events and exhibition theory.
You will have a breadth of knowledge of a specific area of media and
communication theory and competence across a breadth of ideas and
analytical techniques. You will be an independent and confident thinker
with a track record of teaching and student motivation. You will be an
able communicator and collaborator who is able to deploy, interpret and
innovate within existing teaching syllabi and structures. You will have
an emerging research and publication record. Supporting established
staff in the development of research projects and funding bids, you will
be an ambitious scholar who aims to develop your own internationally
excellent research expertise with your own application that will be
supported by BCMCR.
Taking a role in the Birmingham School of Media within the Faculty of
Arts, Design and Media you will join an experienced, innovative and
diverse team of teachers. As a research active member of staff you will
also contribute to the development of a vibrant research culture in
BCMCR. Your identity as a researcher and personal plan for development
will speak to one of the distinctive areas of research in BCMCR with
particular focus on one or more of our research clusters in: *History,
Heritage and Archives; Cultural Ecologies; Journalism, Activism and
Community*. BCMCR aims to produce distinctive, collaborative work within
the field of media and cultural research. In the recent Research
Excellence Framework process for assessing the UK HE sector, the
majority of BCMCR research environment and activities were judged as of
a quality that is internationally excellent in terms of originality,
significance and rigour.
