of Sunderland invites applications for an AHRC Home/EU PhD Studentship:

*Amber, the Workshop Declaration and Moving Image Distribution*

The Centre for Research in Media and Cultural Studies at University of
Sunderland, in partnership with Amber Film & Photography Collective, is
seeking to appoint a suitably qualified applicant for a full-time PhD
studentship to explore the role played by the Workshop Declaration and
Channel 4 funding in enabling the wider distribution of community,
radical, independent film and video by Amber and others during the 1980s
and early 1990s. The following Amber works will be at the heart of the
project:

The project will also allow an examination of how Workshop Movement
models of production and distribution, aimed at giving local communities
and their interests a (media) voice, are now being drawn into
contemporary online delivery via Amber’s Heritage Lottery Fund project
which aims to preserve, improve access to and develop wider use of their
extensive collection. This studentship is for three years, commencing on
1 October 2015. More information about the project can be found at

The studentship is fully funded through the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral
Award programme, and includes tuition fees up to the standard Home/EU
amount and an annual stipend of £14,057 and a training grant of £200 per
annum.

Applicants should hold (or expect to achieve) a Masters degree and
either a 1^st  or Upper 2^nd  Class Honours degree from a recognized
research organization in a relevant discipline.

The closing date is Monday 29 June. Shortlisted candidates will be
notified by Friday 3 July latest, with interviews on Monday 13 July 2015.
