The University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication seeks
two outstanding Visiting Assistant/Associate Professors to join our
faculty, carry out scholarly research, and teach in both our
undergraduate and graduate programs. The ideal candidates will have a
track record of research and university teaching experience in the field
of media studies and share our demonstrated commitment to working
effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Only candidates with the Ph.D. degree in relevant fields will be considered.
We seek colleagues with strong research and teaching interests in areas
such as
* Media Ethics
* Communication Law
* Gender, Media, and Diversity
* International Communication
* Media and Society
* Media History
Candidates with expertise in ethics and/or law and research interests in
new media are especially encouraged to apply. An ability to teach across
the areas listed above is also particularly valued. New faculty will
teach and advise in our Media Studies area, which includes the School's
core context courses (listed above) in large-lecture format at the
undergraduate level and seminar format at the upper-division
undergraduate and graduate levels. These courses are required of all
students in our four areas of concentration: Advertising, Journalism,
Public Relations, and Media Studies. New colleagues will also teach and
advise in our master's and doctoral programs in Media Studies.

The only comprehensive accredited journalism program in the Pacific
Northwest, SOJC offers majors in advertising, journalism, media studies
and public relations; Honors Program; and Media Studies minor; and
supports the interdisciplinary Cinema Studies major and Multimedia
minor. The school offers Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Media Studies and
professional M.A. degrees in Journalism, Multimedia Journalism and
Strategic Communication. The school began implementing an innovative
undergraduate curriculum in 2009, moved into state-of-the-art facilities
in January 2013, is launching the Center for Journalism Innovation and
Civic Engagement, and will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2016. With
more than 2200 students, SOJC is one of six professional schools at UO
and UO is a Research I member of the American Association of Universities.
