The University of Zurich invites applications for a
Professor of Mass Communication with a Specialization in Media
Audiences and Media Realities
The successful candidate comes with a record of excellence in
researching the contents and audiences of traditional and new media,
as well as their drivers and effects from a primarily sociological
perspective. Candidates should be prepared to teach courses in the
entire field of mass communication, also including introductory
courses in the BA and MA program and courses in empirical research
methods. They should be able to relate their teaching and research to
Switzerland. The successful candidate is expected to be highly
qualified in empirical methods of the social sciences.
The position should be filled as soon as possible. Candidates are
expected to have a strong research record (equivalent to a
habilitation) in the relevant field. Depending on qualification and
previous experience, the professorship will take the form of a chair
or an assistant professorship with tenure track. Since administrative
work is conducted in German at the University of Zurich, non-German
speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of
German within the first two years of appointment. Teaching in English
is accepted. In order to increase the number of women in leading
academic positions, we specifically encourage women to apply.
The closing date for applications is May 30, 2014. Applicants are
requested to write a letter in which they describe their abilities and
motivation, accompanied by a current curriculum vitae, a list of
publications, a description of courses they have taught, a description
of completed research projects, and three representative publications.
