PhD Scholarships in Languages and Intercultural Studies

The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies is offering up to 
six Professorial PhD Scholarships and up to four James Watt/SML PhD 
scholarships to start in the academic year 2013-14. The term of the 
scholarships is three years. Successful candidates will be expected to 
make a contribution to activities in the Department in return for a 
fee-waiver, a maintenance allowance of £13,590

The Languages and Intercultural Studies PhD programme is highly 
successful and respected both nationally and internationally. Recent 
graduates, who benefit from the extensive research contacts of staff 
across the world, have gained employment in a range of academic positions.

The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies is committed to 
conducting theoretically advanced and socially-useful research which is 
relevant to the academic community and also engages with public 
interest. We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates to 
develop projects in specific areas. Visit

Any language combinations may be proposed, but the Department has 
particular research interests in Chinese, English, French, German, 
Spanish and minority languages, including Irish Gaelic, Galician and 
Sign Languages.
