Faculty Political and Social Sciences – vacancy part-time professorship (20%) in the field of Film and Television Studies

Job description

The faculty of Political and Social Sciences has a vacancy for a professorship, starting from October 1, 2012. It concerns a part-time position (20%) as Professor in the rank of Lecturer (docent) for 3 years in the Department of Communication Sciences, charged with academic teaching (in Dutch), scientific research and carrying out scientific duties in the field of Film and Television Studies.

Profile

* candidates should preferably hold a PhD in Communication Sciences or a degree recognized as equivalent in the field of Communication Sciences; * Candidates are required to have research experience in the field mentioned (audiovisual communication), as is evident from recent publications in national and international peer reviewed journals and/or books; * Candidates are required to possess the necessary didactic, organizational and communicative skills for teaching at an academic level in the field of audiovisual communication, on bachelor and master level; * Having experience in international mobility, amongst others through participation in research programs at research institutions not linked to the university where the highest degree was obtained, is recommended;
* Having experience in research projects is recommended.

This position is linked to the course ‘Audiovisual communication’. Additionally, the position includes the usual tasks related to a ZAP-position, such as the supervision of master dissertations and attracting of research. The governing language at Ghent University is Dutch. However, persons who do not speak Dutch as a native language are welcome to apply.

Job description

The faculty of Political and Social Sciences has a vacancy for a professorship, starting from October 1, 2012. It concerns a part-time position as Professor in the rank of Lecturer (docent, Tenure Track) charged with academic teaching (mostly in Dutch), scientific research and carrying out scientific duties the field of teaching methodology

Profile

* candidates should hold a PhD in communication sciences, political sciences, sociology, or EU studies or a degree recognized as equivalent; * candidates are required to have at least two years of post-doctoral experience on October 1,2012; * candidates are required to have research experience in the field of study concerned, proved by recent publications in national and international peer reviewed journals and/or books; * candidates are required to possess the necessary didactic, organizational and communicative skills for teaching at third level;
* having provable teaching experience.


Recommended

* Holder of the 'specific teacher degree' in political and social sciences;
* Publications about education in general and the teaching methodology in particular; * Experience in the coordination of internships (monitoring, evaluation, administration); * having experience in international mobility, amongst others through participation in research programs at research institutions not linked to the university where the highest degree was obtained, is recommended.

Contents

* Training students regarding their didactic functioning in secondary education and higher vocational education;
* Coordinating internships;
* Organizing education-related seminars;
* Performing educational research, in particular of didactical nature;
* Following current developments in education, such as the educational organization and the career of teachers
