International PhD Scholarship: Digital Narratives

*University of Central Lancashire* - School of Journalism, Media
     and Communication

*Reference No INT-034Egglestone*

Applications are invited for a full-time scholarship available in the School of Journalism, Media and Communication. The scholarship is tenable for up to 3 years for a PhD (via MPhil route) [subject to satisfactory progress] and is open to international applicants only. UK/EU applicants are not eligible to apply. The scholarship will provide £15000 towards the cost of the International tuition fee over 3 years.

This project explores new paradigms and possibilities for user interaction by linking traditionally separate technologies (e.g mobile, plastic electronics, TV) and disciplines (games design, Journalism, film-making) in different and interesting ways, to support and create new digital narratives, new forms of storytelling and new ways of interacting with stories in different contexts.

The study will focus on the researcher’s interaction and activities with a multidisciplinary team of games designers, journalists, film-makers, photographers etc. It will explore and produce new forms of digital narrative. It will examine the relationship between the researcher’s ‘research journey’, the emerging digital artefacts, and how these are replayed and shared with others using digital platforms including those of social media, interactive paper, games consoles and screen based technologies including mobile. And it will examine the essence of digital storytelling.

Applicants should have, or expect to receive a qualification equivalent to a high class UK honours degree.
