Professor of Media and Communication
with a specialisation in Digital Media and Communication

The Department of Media and Communication (MKV) at Mid Sweden University carries out research in four areas: new and digital media and communication, political communication, organizational communication and journalism. Since 1999 the forest industrial centre Fibre Science and Communication Network (FSCN) at Mid Sweden University has been carrying out multidisciplinary research in order to describe and analyse the requirements for new forms of communication. The professorship in Media and Communication Science with a specialization in Digital Media and Communication should support and develop the research on the media content and form, production conditions, processes and technology. The professorship is located at the Division of Media and Communication (MKV) at the Department of Information Technology and Media at Mid Sweden University; the position is located at this division and at the centre of Fibre Science and Communication Network (FSCN) at Mid Sweden University. Job description: The position entails following and analysing the media development in general, as well as initiating, planning and organizing research on people?s, organizations? and the society?s use of and attitude towards new media and interactive services, the traditional media?s adjustment to and use of new digital production, distribution and consumption opportunities and the consequences of the development of the new technology. Also included is teaching as well as supervision of doctoral students. Qualifications: Applicants must have an established record of scholarship and teaching appropriate to appointment to full professor. As much attention will be given to the assessment of teaching proficiency as to the assessment of research proficiency (HEO chapter 4 sections 5-6). Assessment criteria: An asset in this context is documented successful management of large research projects and of research closely connected to the wider community, as is competence when it comes to presenting research results within as well as outside of the research community. Scientific productivity and publication in international journals of research, conference proceedings and other forums for scientific publication is considered an additional qualification. Experience and knowledge of media usage, media technology, diffusion research, research on people?s experience of communication and interaction between the individual and the media, is an advantage; as is documented experience of staff management from the trade and industry or public institutions. Additional information: In this recruitment the University will give priority to the applicant who after an overall assessment of ability to collaborate, of competence and proficiency, is estimated to have the qualifications to carry out and develop the present tasks and contribute to a favourable development of the organization. The ability to teach in Swedish as well as in English is a requirement. An applicant who at the beginning of the employment has a command of only one of the two languages shall within no more than two years acquire sufficient knowledge to be able to teach in the second language. The primary work location is Sundsvall; however occasionally there may be work at any of the Mid Sweden University campuses.
