[ecrea] PhD Studentship - Cross Platform Media Practices
Mon Jun 01 12:48:51 GMT 2009
PhD research studentship: Cross Platform Media Practices.
The UK's only HEFCE funded Centre for Excellence in Media Practice
(CEMP) at Bournemouth University in association with leading new
media company, Magic Lantern Productions, are seeking an outstanding
doctoral candidate for a 3-year PhD studentship focused on the
emerging area of cross platform media practices. Cross platform
practices are now impacting on contemporary media commissioning,
production, reception and more traditional areas of scholarship and
learning are being influenced by new theoretical responses, and this
project will make a significant contribution to this area.
The project will be supervised by Professor Stephen Heppell, and the
successful candidate will work closely with Magic Lantern
Productions and in particular its CEO Professor Anthony Lilley, who
is also a Visiting Professor at Bournemouth University, in realising
defined research outcomes. Applicants will be required to take a
lead from these broad areas in order to shape and define their own research:
* How does a brand, a community, a piece of screened material, a
visual artefact, a narrative, work effectively on and across
different media platforms?
* How do cross-platform techniques, practices and policies vary
according to genre, demographic, culture and initial exhibition technology?
* How do cross-platform commissioners make aspirations and
prospects a reality?
This is very much a space for the candidate to embrace, mould and
inhabit through their research. We would welcome fresh approaches to
the doctoral process that exemplify cross media processes.
