The School of Media at the Dublin Institute of
Technology (DIT) has issued a request for
research pro= posals for the Abbest PhD
Scholarship worth ?63,000 over 3.5 years.
The Abbest PhD Scholarship will provide a
maintenance grant of ?16,00= 0 p.a. and expenses
of ?2,000 p.a. for 3.5 years. Applicants must
have= at least a 2.1 honours degree or
equivalent. The final closing date for app= lications is 15th May 2009.
The Scholarship comes under the heading of
Researching Media, Technology an= d Civil
Society. As part of this broader initiative,
proposals are requested= for work within the School of Media, DIT.
The School of Media welcomes proposals for
original and innovative research= that aims to
deepen our understanding of the relationship
between media and= social change. Proposals are
particularly sought in the areas of media prod=
uction research, user/audience ethnography and community media education.

The proposal should be between 4,000?5,000 words in length. It must i= nclude:
- A description of the media field in question
- An overview of relevant literature
- A proposed methodology with a supporting rationale
- Finally, and most importantly, there must be a
clear and concise research= question
