[Commlist] Jeunesse - Call for Editors

Wed Jan 23 22:08:09 GMT 2019

*Call for editors:*

/Jeunesse: Young People, Texts, Cultures/ is an interdisciplinary, scholar-led, peer-reviewed, bilingual academic journal housed at the University of Winnipeg. The mandate of the journal is to publish research on and to provide a forum for discussion about cultural productions for, by, and about young people.

//

The journal is currently looking for an *editor who specializes in history*, ideally the history of young people or young people’s texts and cultures. We welcome statements of interest from historians studying any period or place. Duties and responsibilities include finding peer reviewers, assessing peer-review reports, preparing reports for the managing board, and substantive editing of accepted articles. At /Jeunesse/, substantive editing includes detailed assessment of the logic of the argument and comments on stylistic felicity.

The journal is also looking for a *Reviews Editor*. Duties and responsibilities include helping to organize and maintain a list of books to be reviewed, inviting scholars to write reviews, and editing reviews. Review editing involves corresponding with review authors as well as other editors whose area of study may place them in an excellent position to help out with editing a particular review. Preference for this position will be given to scholars who are either early-career and looking for a gentle introduction to scholarly journal work or labouring as a member of the academic precariat. Reviews editing is less work than article editing but counts as important and highly skilled academic work.

While the positions are unpaid, there are considerable benefits to working as an editor of /Jeunesse/: editors help to shape the field of studies in young people’s texts and cultures internationally and to mentor emerging scholars, and will be offered the opportunity to participate in planning future directions of the journal. In addition, editors are entitled to request reference letters to aid in promotion and tenure from the lead or any other editor on the board. For the most part, editors will work remotely, via e-mail. All editors will receive a free subscription to the journal.

Applicants should provide a statement of interest that outlines why they would like be an editor of /Jeunesse/, as well as an account of previous editing experience (if any) and a short curriculum vitae that showcases other relevant scholarly activities. Statements should clearly indicate that applicants are familiar with the journal.

The deadline for applications is *March 1, 2019*. Please send your applications and any inquiries to:
