[Commlist] Call for participants. Tutorial: Towards Inclusive Research & Development in immersive technologies, at ISMAR 2025
Wed Jul 09 15:31:46 GMT 2025
The IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR),
is the premier conference for Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR)
and Virtual Reality (VR), which attracts the world’s leading researchers
from both academia and industry. https://www.ieeeismar.net/2025/
<https://www.ieeeismar.net/2025/>
We cordially invite you to join our Tutorial ‘Towards Inclusive Research
& Development in immersive technologies’ on October 8, at ISMAR, which
will be held at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC), South Korea, from
Oct. 8 to Oct. 12 2025. The session can be joined in person or online.
This tutorial is concerned with design of and research into immersive
tech applications that take the characteristics of different audiences
into account. We look back at video game history, and consider how
online game culture may influence emergent cultures in the virtual
realm. We claim that for further (commercial) exploitation of the XR
domain, it will be crucial that large audiences can be reached. This
means that also users that may be less tech-savvy than us – the
students, researchers, and developers – should be included in our
further explorations into user experiences, -preferences, and
-limitations. Furthermore, we discuss how thinking about inclusive
research and design can be implemented in educational programs, for the
benefit of future XR communities and the industry.**This tutorial
promises to be an informative yet engaging event, highly relevant for
anyone working or studying in the field of immersive technologies
research and/or development.
