*_Summary of the role_*

You will contribute to extending the research profile of at Exeter, particularly in critical approaches to the study of Media and Communications from industrial, theoretical, or textual/representation perspectives related to areas of cultural politics and identity, including (but not limited to) social class, gender, sexuality, “race”, ethnicity, nationhood, disability.

The successful candidate will teach on existing Communications modules and lead the development of new modules in their areas of expertise. They will attract postgraduate research students and research funding and develop collaborative professional partnerships within and beyond the department.

*You will have:*

 1. a PhD in Media and Communications, or a related discipline, and have
    an independent, internationally recognised research programme in a
    relevant active field of research.
 2. A strong record in attracting funding for research or demonstrate
    potential to attract such funding.
 3. Enthusiasm for delivering and developing high quality undergraduate
    and postgraduate modules and have substantial prior teaching
    experience at university level.
 4. The potential to make strong connections and funded projects with
    business and community partners.
 5. The potential to participate and lead projects which have impact.
 6. An evidenced commitment to equality and diversity within an
    organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture.
 7. HEA Fellowship status or be committed to gaining this award within
    18 months of appointment.

*_The role_*

The post will extend the research profile of Communications at Exeter, particularly in areas related to media regulation and policy.

The successful candidate will teach on existing Communications modules and lead the development of new modules in their areas of expertise at both BA and MA levels. You will also attract and supervise PhD students.

You will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

*The Online Safety Act 2023 *

*Digital media policy and regulation*

*Online safety and harms*

*AI regulation*

*Big Tech regulation*

The successful applicant will have an independent research programme that will strengthen and complement the existing team at the University.

*You will be able to demonstrate the following qualities and characteristics:*

 1. Hold a PhD in Media and Communications, or a related discipline, and
    be externally recognised as an authority in your area of expertise,
    in digital media governance and/or policy
 2. A strong record in attracting funding for research or demonstrate
    potential to attract future funding
 3. Enthusiasm for delivering and developing high quality undergraduate
    and postgraduate modules, as well as substantial experience in
    curriculum development and PhD supervision
 4. The potential to make strong connections and funded projects with
    business and community partners, and potential to participate and
    lead projects which have impact
 5. Proven academic leadership skills and the willingness to take on
    leadership roles within the discipline and/or wider department
