The Role and Your Responsibilities
Reporting to the Dean of the School, the Associate Dean, Media is a
critical leadership and management role responsible for advancing
learning and teaching quality, research relevance and industry
engagement for the discipline. They will work across disciplines and
schools to deliver effective learning and teaching and research outcomes.
The Associate Dean is accountable for providing strategic and academic
leadership and management to the discipline, consistent with the
University and College strategic plans and objectives, and for
contributing at a senior level to the strategic planning and development
of the School.
The Associate Dean is a member of the School executive team and will
work collaboratively with all members of the management team and staff
across the school to ensure the School achieves its strategic objectives.
Skills & Experience Required
To be successful in the role you will possess strong leadership skills
and experience in leading academic teams in a collegiate environment to
deliver strategic objectives. You will bring with you a well-developed
understanding of budget management, quality management, and good governance.
You will have discipline strength and a teaching and research track
record in one or more of the programs or contextual streams. The
discipline currently offers the following programs: Bachelor of
Communication (Media), Master of Media, Bachelor of Communication
(Journalism), Graduate Diploma in Journalism, and the Bachelor of Arts
(Music Industry). There are also three contextual streams: Cinema
Studies, Approaches to Popular Culture and Politics, Economics and
Communication. A strength in Digital Communication would also be
advantageous.
The School will value your capacity to think strategically based on
organisational priorities and objectives while displaying a high level
of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills. These skills
will be required for your interactions with senior executives and
external bodies and your involvement with cross disciplinary and
cross-sectoral teams. Your leadership and expertise in learning and
teaching along with your substantial academic, research and relevant
professional achievement will contribute to the overall standing of the
School both nationally and internationally.
We are looking for a person to join our School who is creative, critical
and ambitious in their approach to media and communication research and
scholarship and the future evolution of the media discipline. We seek a
person interested in building capacity within teams and who has
demonstrable skill and interest in encouraging a collegial workplace as
a forward-thinking leader.
We are interested in candidates who demonstrate a global outlook,
international excellence and high quality, high impact research,
underpinned by supporting cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary
teams who work with partners to address complex, real-world problems.
Qualifications
Mandatory: PhD.
Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with
Children check.
