W2 Professorship in “Analysis and Aesthetics of Audiovisual Media”The
department of media science at the Film University Babelsberg
KONRAD WOLF, Faculty I,is calling for applications for a
position of a scientific professorship(salary class W2) in the
specialist field of“Analysis and Aesthetics of Audiovisual Media”.
Time limitation:According to § 43 Higher Education Act valid for
the Federal State of Brandenburg (BbgHG) the position shall be
staffed as a full-time post ofunlimited tenure but case of a first time
application for a professorship, further employment is subject
to a positive evaluation after a five year term of office.
Field of tasks:The applicant must be a recognized researcher in the
field of audiovisual media analysis with regard to content formats and
aesthetics, structures of production, distribution and media use as well
as social relevance. Further key aspects of research and teaching will
be television, entertainment media and contemporary
transnational media culture. Applicants should be distinguished
by relevant research and by their knowledge of research methods
(qualitative and/or quantitative methodology). Additionally,
they should have the expertise to advance their subject area
according to both the shifting media environment and changes in
theory building. Eventually, applicants should be willing to
cooperate with partners in media industry and media research.
The scope of responsibilities includes teaching the M.A. course “Media
Science” and the B.A. course “Digital Media Culture” as well as
overseeing and coordinating the film festival created by students
“Sehsüchte”.Teaching can partially be held in English.Applicants must
have a willingness and motivation to cooperate with
the artistic departments of the Film University, to collaborate
on interdisciplinary teaching and research activities, and to
actively participate in the university’s self-governing bodies. It is
desirable for the applicant to have administrative and fundraising
experience.
Conditions for employment:The legal conditions for employment are
based on § 41 section 1 No. 1 –4a BbgHG as follows:Completed
university education in a relevant field of studyAn aptitude towards
teachingSpecial competence towards scientific work (i.e., qualified
doctorate degree in a relevant field)Additional scientific merits
(i.e., habilitation or an equivalent accomplishment)
We expect:Research and teaching experience inthe following
fields:Mediaanalysis and media aestheticsTheory and empiricism of
televisionEntertainment media and popular formats of audiovisual
mediaExcellent knowledge of transnational media cultures (especially on
the television market)Excellent English language knowledge, spoken and
written
Mandatory teaching assignments:The teaching assignment comprises 8
SWS(weekly contact hours per semester) according to the
mandatory teaching regulation of the Federal State of Brandenburg and
the respective study and examination regulations of the degree
program MA “Media Science” and BA “Digital Media Culture”.
Start ofemployment:Employment shall commence on October 1st, 2019.
